Joan Didion: Miami

Last night I finished Joan Didion’s Miami, which had been waiting patiently on my shelf for a while. Brilliantly written literary non-fiction, a joy to read. I’m grateful to whoever first recommended it to me — maybe Mike Allen? I don’t remember, but thanks for the recommendation!

But the weird thing was how much of my childhood it brought back to me. I was constantly recalling names and events and even emotions of my youth — ask my wife how many times I said, “Oh!” while reading. Gave me some context for many things I wasn’t old enough to understand at the time.

So if you want to know about Miami from 1960—mid 80’s (and the effect it had on America, and the effect it had on me!), now you know what to read… Click here to see the book and read a preview on Amazon.
