Thank you for the fathers you have given us. Thank you for their love and care, for the strength of their hands, the warmth of their hugs, for the joy that they have in us and we have in them. Thank you even for fathers that fail, or who are missing, because this drives us to You, the perfect Father. Please protect our hearts from bitterness when our earthly fathers fail. Give us a gracious, forgiving spirit, that looks in faith to You.
Please help the fathers in our church. Help them be a good picture of you, erring neither in harshness and impatience nor in the selfish indulgence that leads to temporary peace but not true holiness.
Be with men who are not fathers. Like Jesus, they do not have a physical offspring, but let them also, like Jesus, have an abundantly full quiver of spiritual children. Let many on the last day be brought into the kingdom by their prayers and sacrifical love.
We pray for fathers around the world today, that they would lift their eyes to you in thanksgiving for their children and Your help in nurturing them.
Most of all, we thank You for the great love You have lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! Please make us eager to share this great love and joy with people who don’t know You.
In your Son and our Mediator’s name we pray, Amen.
